Open to Anyone, Anywhere
Ownership can sit with an individual or a company based in any country. Poland places no residency condition on who may fly its flag, or where the vessel is kept.
No Survey Under 15 Metres
Vessels below 15 m are registered without a technical inspection — a real departure from the survey regimes applied by France, Belgium or Switzerland.

From Paperwork to Provisional Papers in About a Week

Documents Submitted
Ownership papers, identification and technical data are compiled, translated where needed, and lodged with the registry.
Provisional Certificate
A fully valid provisional certificate is issued — enough to put to sea immediately, under complete legal cover.
Definitive Certificate
Roughly a month after the provisional paper, the permanent registration document follows and the file is closed.

Identity & Ownership
- Passport or national ID of the registered owner(s)
- Bill of sale, invoice, or builder's certificate proving title
- Deregistration certificate from any previous flag state
- Power of attorney, if an agent is filing on your behalf
The Vessel Itself
- CE declaration of conformity and hull ID (CIN/HIN) photographs, for craft built after 1998
- Engine specification and power declaration, with a photo of the engine plate
- Radio equipment schedule (make and model) for any MMSI application
- Existing VHF, AIS, radar or EPIRB documentation, where fitted
Note on radios: only permanently installed sets qualify for an MMSI application — handheld VHF units are not accepted by the registry.
Where the Vessel Is Entered
Gdańsk is the default port of registry for vessels processed remotely — though the certificate can just as easily name a different Polish home port.
Questions Worth Answering Upfront
Do I need to live in Poland or the EU?
No. Ownership and registration are open regardless of where you or the vessel are ordinarily based — Poland doesn't attach a residency test to its flag.
My boat already flies another country's flag.
It needs to be deregistered from its current flag state before the Polish certificate can be issued. We sequence the two filings so there's no gap in legal cover at sea.
What changes above 15 metres?
Larger vessels fall under a standard technical survey, arranged locally with a classification surveyor before the certificate is finalised — the exemption applies only below that threshold.
Can I keep my existing MMSI number?
No. An MMSI is tied to the flag state that issued it, so re-flagging under Poland means applying for a new number — even if none of the radio hardware on board changes.
Is "lifetime" really lifetime?
Yes, provided ownership and the vessel's particulars stay the same. A sale or a major refit triggers a fresh filing, not a renewal fee on the existing one.
